biography
Brandon Blake began his calligraphy career at the ripe old age of eleven after receiving a gift of calligraphy and technical pens which encouraged him to explore the written word. He copied scores of ornate heavy metal logos and everything he created on paper was tied to words and logos embellished with fine detail.
As a teenager, graffiti was the “next level” calligraphy that captured him. Graffiti demanded precision and style. For the next twelve years, Graffiti was the strongest, most dominating force upon Brandon’s art.
He taught himself to use the written word as his weapon.
Traveling and learning languages throughout the Middle East and Southeast Asia has had a huge influence on the final product of Letter Engineering.
Calligraphy and graffiti have merged with ancient and modern in a way that blurs the lines of what is considered contemporarily urban and what is staunchly traditional.
Through Letter Engineering, elements of style from multiple sources of cultural influence blend, producing harmonious end results. In a world of compliance, Letter Engineering is Brandon Blake’s response to the propagation of seperationism that is prevalent between the Jewish & Arab cultures. This art is intended to foster the change of preconceived notions and misunderstandings.
Art has the ability to shape leaders and turn tides.
